What does your favorite park look like by candlelight? Come find out November 7 when Anderson Park Friends, Inc. (APF) and the Oregon Area Wellness Coalition team up again for a free evening of outdoor family fun.
Tiki torches and luminaries will light a ¾-mile route along the park’s bike path and hiking trail. Take a leisurely walk through the woods and prairie, then gather around the bonfire in the wooded picnic area. Stay for a few minutes or settle in for a while—the fire makes a good excuse to linger.
The Oregon Public Library will provide two Story Walks, giving young readers and their grown-ups something to discover along the way. The Oregon Area Wellness Coalition is also a co-sponsor.
Free snacks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Donations are welcome and appreciated.
Picnic tables will provide general seating and seating near the bonfire. Bring a lawn or bag chair if you’d like a comfortable spot of your own. APF will also have a limited number of flashlights to lend, or you can bring one from home.
Live nearby? Leave the car at home and use the walk-in entrances on South Main Street or Ridge View Lane, which connect to the lighted route.
For those driving, parking will be available in the grass field beside the parking lot at 914 Union Road. Volunteers will help direct parking and point you toward the evening’s activities.
If weather or park conditions require cancellation, APF will make that decision on the morning of November 7 and post an announcement on its Facebook page and website.

Mark your calendar, invite a friend, and bring the family. An evening on the couch can wait, there’s a trail to explore and a bonfire to enjoy.
