Jim and Gary Hess, grandsons of Frank J. Hess will show a photo slideshow of the Frank J Hess and Sons Cooperage from 1904-1966. A cooper is a barrel maker. Jim and Gary will display parts of white oak beer and wine barrels and cooper’s equipment.
The Frank J. Hess and Sons Cooperage factory was on Schenk’s Corners for 62 years. It was Wisconsin’s largest independent cooperage. It was the last cooperage factory in America that manufactured white oak beer kegs for breweries. They also manufactured and repaired wine and whiskey barrels. Grandsons of Frank J. Hess bring the history alive with slides and real cooper’s equipment.
