VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers will be at the Oregon Library on January 12 & 19 from noon to 5 pm to set up future appointments for free basic tax return filing. Appointments fill up extremely fast, according to VITA. Appointments will be reserved January 26 - through April 6, 2017, Thursdays 12:00 - 5:00 pm and alternating Saturdays from 9:00 - 1:00 pm. The VITA program is a cooperative effort by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and many individual states, including Wisconsin. Volunteers trained by the IRS and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) prepare basic income tax returns for free. Offering free electronic filing. REQUIRED by the IRS: Physical social security cards for you, your spouse (if a joint return is filed) and all dependents are required to use the VITA tax filing service.? If you can't find yours, access information about getting a replacement before scheduling a tax filing appointment. You must fill out a form and either take it to the Madison Social Security office or mail it there so that you'll have it in time for your appointment.
